ABOUT CLAYKIND

A studio shaped by clay, time, and community.

CLAYKIND is a ceramic studio in Panjim, Goa, run by ceramic artist Medha Agarwal. What began as a personal space for sculptural practice slowly opened into a shared studio for others seeking time, space, and community around clay.

The studio

Today, CLAYKIND exists as both a working artist’s studio and a community ceramic space, where making happens quietly, side by side.

The studio welcomes potters at different stages of their journey. It offers:

  • Open kiln firings
  • Monthly studio memberships
  • Workshops for absolute beginners to continuing learners
  • A calm, shared environment for focused making

For many, CLAYKIND becomes a place to sit with clay even without having a studio of their own — a space to work, learn, and grow within a small ceramic community.

Materials

Alongside the studio practice, CLAYKIND provides a carefully built selection of ceramic materials. This grew from Medha’s own search for dependable clay bodies and surface materials that were difficult to access within India.

Some materials are sourced from historic ceramic regions such as Jingdezhen in China, along with a few trusted international glaze makers now made available to potters working locally.

The range remains intentionally small — guided by quality, consistency, and long-term usefulness rather than scale or trend.

Sculptural practice

At its core, CLAYKIND is still a sculptural ceramic practice. The objects created in the studio move between botanical forms, animals, and quiet architectural presence — often blurring the space between function and sculpture.

Each piece is shaped slowly by hand, carrying small variations that reflect time, touch, and material behaviour. Collections are released in limited groups, changing gently with season and thought.

The work often features two recurring motifs: birds and succulents. Birds represent movement, lightness, and the fleeting. Succulents bring form, rhythm, and architectural structure. Together, they reflect CLAYKIND's core philosophy: nature is both intuitive and designed, delicate and structured.

Sculptural and functional pieces share the same intention — to add a gentle sense of character and natural irregularity to contemporary homes. CLAYKIND celebrates forests and their inhabitants, inviting people to reconnect with nature through tactile, thoughtfully made objects.
